A feature to increase business conversions

A feature to increase business conversions

In 2023, Sribu.com, one of the largest online platforms in Indonesia that connects business owners with thousands of skilled freelancers in various fields, aimed to create a new feature to boost the company’s revenue. The stakeholders agreed to implement the “Gigs” feature on the Sribu platform. Working closely with team members and the product manager, we make the effort to tackle this challenge.

The stakeholders agreed to implement the “Gigs” feature on the Sribu platform. Working closely with team members and the product manager, we make the effort to tackle this challenge.

The “gigs” feature enables freelancers to offer their services across various categories, such as graphic design, writing, translation, digital marketing, and more, allowing users to search for and purchase services directly from freelancers, streamlining transactions between freelancers and clients. This feature has been applied by similar startups such as Upwork, Freelancer.com, and Fiverr.

Design Process

At Sribu.com, based on previous research, we have learned that only clients have control over creating tasks, and freelancers can only adjust everything the client needs without having high bargaining power. With this gigs feature, freelancers can now make more choices according to their prices, and clients can also get various choices according to their needs. So this is a win-win solution.

After several discussions, meetings with stakeholders, and creating a user journey map + information architecture (sitemap), which happened within 2 weeks, we set to work on crafting low-fi wireframes.

Testing & Validation

We ran two rounds of moderated usability testing with a mix of active freelancers and clients.

  • Freelancer Onboarding Flow (5/5 success rate)
All participants completed the gig creation flow without assistance. Comments highlighted appreciation for the clear structure and ability to preview their listing before publishing.

  • Client Gig Purchase Journey (4/5 success rate)
Most users successfully browsed and purchased a gig. One user struggled with filtering by price, which led us to add a clearer visual price slider in iteration two.

  • Chat Usability (High Engagement)
Users found the chat feature intuitive and used it frequently during gig evaluation. The message preview on the gig page also nudged hesitant users to initiate conversations before buying.

Following the rollout in Q3 2023, we tracked both behavioral metrics and financial KPIs and the results exceeded expectations.

  1. 🚀 20% Revenue Growth in Q4
The launch of Gigs in August marked a pivotal shift. By allowing freelancers to offer fixed-price services, we significantly reduced the conversion funnel from days to minutes. Combined with the integrated Chat feature, the new flow contributed to a 20% revenue increase by Q4. Transaction volume also rose by 23.7%, driven primarily by micro-services and repeat orders.

  1. 🔁 Increased User Retention
Freelancer engagement improved substantially. Compared to Q2, the number of active sellers increased by 31%, and client return rate rose by 15%. With the new system, clients were able to browse, purchase, and communicate (all without leaving the platform or waiting for custom proposals). This self-service model aligned with behavior seen in global platforms like Fiverr and helped solidify user habits.

  1. 📊 Sustained Growth Trend
From the graph, we see how Gigs (blue line) rebounded strongly after its launch in August, surpassing both Contest (green) and Package (orange) by year-end. While Contest and Package continued to decline through Q3, Gigs grew steadily (fueled by continuous design iterations in September and October). By December, Gigs accounted for over 52% of total project transactions, up from just 28% pre-launch.
